Canon is jumping back to the foot of the camera compact space first. Her first compact premium camera in years, Powershot V1, is set to make her public debut next week at CP+ Camera Show in Yokohama, Japan, but the company has mentioned some early details.
Compact cameras are currently enjoying renewed interest promoted by young creators, to the point that supply cannot continue with demand and some have returned to the market used to find their perfect camera. Canon clearly hopes to change the story with V1 and give the creators and enthusiasts of the photo a pocket camera that gives strong performance.
The spiritual offspring of G1 X
V1 is billed as a hybrid camera that places its video features on the forefront. In this regard, it can be seen as a continuation of Powershot V10 of 2023, a vlogging camera of the flip style aimed at the consumer market, but both cameras otherwise share a little in common. V1 is much more similar to the G1 X retirement line, both in the form factor and the size of the sensor, although right, the V1 tool is much more capable when it comes to automatic registration and registration of Videos specially.

The traditional caramel -shaped factor makes V1 a better choice for creators that attract pictures and videos against V10, which has a design that is much more favorable for handmade and tabletop movies. V1 looks like smaller cameras, with fixed lenses and includes a carved hand. It does not include an EVF or flash but has a touching screen for self-registered photos and videos.
An emphasis on the video
The specific sheet looks quite healthy, too. V1 uses a new sensor -shaped factor, a type 1.4 cmos chip that is approximately the same size as a micro four -thirds sensor, but with the most common 3: 2 aspect ratio. -50 mm f2.8-4.5 (equivalent with full frame) with a mechanical lattice of leaf and neutral density filter selected with 3 stops. For pictures record in RAW or JPG format at 22MP at 3: 2 or 18MP at 16: 9.
The focus system is powered by a digic X processor and uses the same double pixel CMOS AF II Recognition and tracking algorithms that canon uses in interchangeable lenses as the full EOS R6 Mark II frame. Based on this, we expect the camera to focus well; R6 Mark II includes reliable discovery of the face and eyes, plus a number of ways of recognizing the subject, all of which continue in V1.
Video specifications are also strong. V1 records at 4k60 with a cut angle and makes 4k30 full of sensor width, both to 16: 9 wide screen. The flat C-Log color is available for experts who want to color classes, along with a full set of polished profiles, ready for stock. The lenses include optical stabilization, which is strengthened by the reduction of electronic vibrations for better hand registration.

V1 has a high quality indoor microphone and sends with a fuzzy cat glass glass that sticks to the hot shoe. A 3.5 mm outlet is also included for external audio. The camera also has an integrated cooling fan, which allows it to record in 4k60 to two hours constantly without overheating. Content makers will also like his direct transmission skills; V1 supports UVC/UAC webcam protocols, so it is only a matter of inserting the camera into the USB-C and selecting it as a video source in your web browser or OBS to broadcast.
Exclusive to Asia, for now
Powershot V1 looks like a heck of a good travel apparatus, content creating and vlogging, and light, daily transfer. Vloggers and photographers in North America will have to wait a little time to get one, however. At departure, V1 is only available in China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.
“Finally, hopefully you will see it connected to the US,” Canon USA tells us, adding that “2025 is a really good bet on time. We will have more details on V1 when it comes to the North American market.
